Why do people claim that God gave them an interpretation when there are so many denominations?
SmallChurchWarrior asked the question:
I am a Christian. I go to a Church of God of Prophecy church(the name scares most people off). i belive in what the Bible tells me, not the teachings of some tv preacher with a neck tie that costs more than my truck. I just want to know why people add and take away from the Bible that has stood the test of time and predates all other religions, but is translated into so many different denominations and teachings?
An exmaple being: The Lords Supper. some people have it every Sunday, some once a year… Some people say members only, some say eveyone… some say only those who are saved, some say examine yourself and know that you are not worthy of this but God allows you to because He loves you.
I do not question God’s plan. I do ask Him questions. I did not say that the denomination i am in predates nething i know its only 110 years old if that, i said “why do people add and take away from the Bible that has stood the test of time and predates all other religions, but is translated into so many different denominations and teachings?”
i dont think you got what i said radiofrog… i said Bible not Christianity. the Bible predates others… i know the Jews have been around for a very long time… so next time you start bashing some one read what they had to say first… its people like you that push others away.

Which church is the best one to go to if you are a quiet person?
ohioguy4jc asked the question:
I’m a quiet person. I’ve went to the Nazarene church for years but they seem to look down on me because I am quiet. But I went to the Grove City Nazarene last week and they were really welcoming so I don’t think it is a denomination issue. Where should I go?

Interested in attending church?
labellephilomene asked the question:
I was raised with no particular faith but am interested in seeing if Christianity is right for me.
How does someone who’s interested in beginning to attend church start?
I want to attend a denomination that’s fairly “liberal” and non-evangelist… something that espouses the basic principles of Christianity, in an openminded way. I’m not comfortable with singing hymns and the like. Does such a church exist?

The 2001 edition of World Christian Encyclopedia estimates that there are 33,830 Christian denominations?
PicassoInActions asked the question:
So the question is how would a person choose the denomination? Of cause most will say open your heard and Jesus will guide you but it seems that every one of Cristian did just that and some how they got guided to all those different denominations.
Does Jesus conbfuses ppl on purpose? ANd if Not than how would you choose?
WHile some differences are minors , some are very big and contreverses. For Example , Ortodox Cristian Church which is one of the bigest ( Catolics don’t come even close to thier number ( this is taken from World Christian Encyclopedia )) states that Hell is not ethernal while Catolics and some others state that Hell is ethernal.
WHile its easier to say that all are about Body of Jesus but most Cristians concider other cristians not true belivers and therefore they will go to hell.
So for the novice it would be hard not to make a mistake isn’t?
And i strongly doubth that any Cristian would think he is not teh true one.
Therefore GOD and Sunday’s exist.

Is it correct to say that there is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism (therefore, one church)?
JayDee asked the question:
I believe that it’s easy to see that the bible speaks of one church, that church which belongs to Christ.
How come there are “those” that hate it when you say you’re a member of THIS church and THAT church alone; no other.
Some of them seem to HATE it when you say that the church is NOT made up of 200 different conflicting denominations (according to the scriptures mind you) . Yet “others” of them say, “see, Christians can’t even agree among themselves”.
BUT, you give “them” the Truth according to God’s Word (that the Lord’s church is one body), and “they” reject that!
Well, I’m NOT ashamed to say that I’m a member of THAT church, the church of Christ, the one you read about when we open God’s holy Word.
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[c] just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’ ”
Romans 1:16-17
hell lemur,
To the honest person, it’s easy to see from the scriptures that Christ establisthed HIS church.
John, There os one body, you’re right. BUT, the body IS the church. There are many CONGREGATIONS of His church.
me, I know that SOUNDS good, but there’s no scripture to support it.
mariam, No, I’m a CHRISTIAN.
george, The atheist must kindda like you.
wonder, you’re ALMOST there. The ONE baptism TODAY is WATER baptism (atleast in the LORD’S church anyway).
deborah, Do you think a member of ONE body would drive past 7 “different” “churches” on sunday morning to get one that “agrees” with him? You can’t get these folks to assemble under one ROOF. Yet somehow they’re supposed to be ONE church?
mary, Good anallogy, if applied properly.
body (the church) there are also legs, feet, arms (individual members)…. there is one tree (Christ) but many branches (members).
You see, the legs, the feet CAN’T be different churches, THEY DON’T AGREE WITH EACH OTHER.
Will, Thanks, but I say GOD is absolutly right.
doku,
“This being said, I feel that the perception of whether it is “correct” depends entirely upon the person who perceives.”…………..HUGE MISTAKE.
Truth does not depend on ones perception.
kait, I like that!
catalyst,
LDS is not the one. I’m sorry.
777,
“the real true church that is the body of Christ is not confined to a building or a denomination. it is made of all the true believers that accept Gods perfect works on the cross as the sole means of their salvation.”
That’s true.
Rick, You are absolutely right! The humble heart will search for and FIND the true body of Christ, even in this evil generation.
Nobel, As long as those “many people” are believing, practicing, and teaching the SAME gospel, and that OF Christ, you’d be right.
Steve, perhaps I wish it were like that but, how are you going toget that to agree with I Cor 1 10-13?
“I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.”
Is Christ divided?”
Country Boy, Don’t be moved. “GOD has revealed it” to ALL who would believe.
Tater, THAT’S what wish all would see.
Shorty, Thank you. THE BIBLE IS RIGHT!
Rufus,
“..IF a Christian is defined as a person who believes in the devine resurrection of Christ” I know many people who even profess to be christians believe this lie, but that’s NOT according to the scriptures.
“Religious people (and those inconveniently living on their battle grounds) have been killing each other over the same sort of semantics for centuries.”
The Lord’s church is NOT the responsible for “religions” of the world.
“you all really do seem fragmented.”
That’s PRECISELY my point. That which you percieve as “the church” is not “the Lord’s church”.
You see, the Lord’s church IS unified.

Karema Midnight Atheist asked the question:
Their members are leaving in droves especially the fundamentalist. The Pentecostal Church I left four years ago is now used for a warehouse. Why are people abandoning God? I know why I left but they are not all becoming Atheist. Many more wealthy moder church are on the verge of collapse now too because their congregation has fell so low?

Did Ignatius mean the Roman Catholic Church?
Edge asked the question:
I often see people, especially Catholic Crusader, post that Ignatius mentions the Catholic church in a document written as early as 107 AD. This comes from Ignatius’ letter to the Smyrnaeans. I have read this quote and if you look at it, it has nothing to do with the denomination known as Catholicism. Instead it reflects what Protestants teach. That the church is all believers not a denomination. He refers merely to a universal church. Catholics have changed this to point to their denomination. Below is the specific quote only I changed it a bit. The letter was written in greek and the word Catholic should have been translated as well but was not.
“Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the universal Church.”
The Catholic church puts Catholic instead of universal. They leave it untranslated to try and support the Catholic church. What do you think?
When fully translated the quote merely means a universal church of believers. Thus all believers are the church. Not a denomination. And yes I know Catholics say they are a universal church. This is not true as any thinking person can see.
The Cub - First I don’t really care what Luther said. Second that unbroken line of pope is hilarious. At times there were multiple popes. Some popes have been declared heretics. At times the Catholic church admits they are not sure who was pope. The term pope was not even used till the 3rd or 4th century. Thus Peter could not have been a pope. The unbroken line of popes is a lie of the Catholic church that they insist is truth in order to give them legitimacy to claim they are the true church. When the true church is all Christians and not a denomination.
MaH - Actually I would say the protestant churches teach more like the early church. We have not taking man made traditions and made them equal to the Bible as others have.
