If the catholic church is not the one true church started by Jesus Christ, then why did He wait 1500 yrs. to bring the true church? Or did He? Did you know every other church has for its founder a mans name, but only the catholic church can say, Jesus Christ is it’s founder. Check the history and you will know the truth.
sorry but all the answers so far are untrue. The chruch of Jesus Christ was begun on Pentacost day !Jesus gave them the command to go into all the world and preach the good news. It is named catholic because it is universal, and spread thruoughout the world. Opionions are just that facts are facts
I meant to say Opinions are just that what someone thinks, but truth, is a fact and is undenialble , tho’ people deny truth all the time and have from the begining.

Denominations?

Are denominations from God? How can they be when they split up all the Christians? I mean, there are 1500 denominations alone in California. Isn’t it time for the Body of Christ to come together, and leave our superstitions, rituals and non-biblical doctrines behind? What if we all agreed on the true Word of God, and not what man says?
Why do denominations make “rules” for membership in their churches. Isn’t salvation a free gift?
On the other hand, can’t someone come into a denomination, and follow all the rules, yet not be a true Christian?
I think the only way for us to come together as Christian, is to break down the walls and denominations. If you are in a denomination, then you are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

What is the worst church you have been to?

I just came back from a Methodist church, the people were quite honestly rude.. I was scorned at while searching for an envelope to give to their donation. The people would not move out of the way in pews if you wanted to sit down. Then at the end, no one would let me out.. Everyone was lining out of the pews in a rush so they could all sit in the lobby and make me wait longer to get out cause when I finally did get there they cut in front of me again… This place was spiritually devoid.. I mean, the choir was great but other than that it was lousy, the people were rude and judgemental.. I thought a Methodist church would be a safe place to investigate.. bleh.. Out of all of the Churches I have gone to and all of the denominations this was by far the worst. I think I will investigate a non denominational next..
It reminds me why I left Christianity in the first place.

How to find a new church?

The church my family attends has no youth group (my kids are the only ones there!), the pastor’s sermons are basic and uninspired, and the Bible study my wife attends is monotonous. For these and other reasons, we have decided to find another church. We are not set on any denomination (we attend an Episcopal church now, and we know we don’t want the Assembly of God-type worship). I plan on calling and possibly setiing up meetings with pastors of the other churches in our very small town.
Do any Christians have suggestions or advice on how to break off our realtionship with our current church (I have coffee with the Pastor almost every Saturday) and how to find the church that is best for my family? Any specific questions I should ask?

(Sadly, I must write this: please, no atheists writing derogatory comments. My wife, children, and I love science, and are not so ignorant as to be swayed by petty, half-informed pseudo-science.)
I was raised Roman Catholic and attended Church of Christ Bible school. My wife and children were just baptized this past Holy Saturday, so we are not hung up on any denominational nit-picking. We just want a good church that preaches the Gospel.

Matthew 16:18; Is this the true rock of Jesus’ church? or Satan in disguise?

This verse has been designated as a premise for the Authority of the Popes as the successor’s to St Peter, thus giving Catholicism the unique denomination of Christ’s chosen Church. BUT if you look a few verses down the page as a rebuke;
Matthew 16:23; “……said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: though art an offence to me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.”
Peter then went on to deny Jesus “three times b4 the cock crow” ( though the cock crowed after the first denial in Mark 14: 66-72) ALSO
2 Corinthians 11:14-15; ” and no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works”
Could this mean the Vatican is the house of Satan?
Could this be the reason why the Catholic church seemed to act so demoniacally in their instigation of their Holy Wars! Inquisitions and Anti-Semitism? does this interpretation not fit the idea that the Church is nothing but a profiteering Bureaucracy, built on greed and a hunger for domination of the Human Conscience (soul)?
Chris; apart from this, after basing their authority on the fallen Apostle Peter, they dropped the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles for the vision of StPaul, a self appointed Apostle of whom Jesus never met! who’s arrogance brought about the decline of Jesus infavour of the almighty Trinity. Pauline doctrine is the doctrine of the Catholic church, it was voted as truth at the Council of Nicea in 325ce at the behest of the Emperor Constantine ( the saviour of Christianity) who lived as a Pagan and died an Arian!

I am an Atheist!! this interpretation fits better with the actual actions of the Catholic church over the last 1700 yrs, they are just a tyrannical bureaucracy. The teachings of Jesus were lost to them years ago. You say that they have learned from their mistakes, well I am not surprised! for now that they have established their position and made their Billions, they can now put them selves over as the caring loving church. we are not God and we don’t forget the sins of the past, what did the Papacy do give confession to eachother so that they would be absolved from their sins! people won’t forget

I am talking about left “politically” not about picking an choosing christian principles.
i want to be somewhere where i won’t be told that i’m basically going to hell if i don’t support right-wing conservative policies. i’m not questioning christianity, just trying to find a church where i can be comfortable at.
