Are there any Christian denominations that are leftist?

Mamita_Salsita asked the question:

I know it may seem like a silly question, but I really want to go to church but i can’t stand the thought of right-wing principles being shoved down my throat.
Please only helpful, honest answers. I’ll reward best answer if you can find me a leftist church in Northeast Ohio.
I am talking about left “politically” not about picking an choosing christian principles.
i want to be somewhere where i won’t be told that i’m basically going to hell if i don’t support right-wing conservative policies. i’m not questioning christianity, just trying to find a church where i can be comfortable at.

by definition, they all should be

jesus (although he is a myth) is considered to have been a liberal, and would be liberal were he here today…

…likely not very happy with the right-wing hatred in the US.

The United Methodists are pretty left. Grace Cathedral in San Francisco is an example.

Look up your local Unitarian church. They’re nice to everyone. You can be a Christian, pagan, atheist or anything else and be welcome. Their sermons tend to be intelligent and well presented as well. A real thinking persons church.

what you are failing to grasp is that “left-wing” philosophy pretty much goes agaisnt…….anything and everything biblical.

every single pro-atheist, or anti-christian organization supports the democratic party…..

i am by no means saying “the right” is so holy…

im just telling it how it is…

If you mean left politically, its a mixed bag, some Catholics are very left from that perspective, as are some Baptists, more Methodist, Episcopalian and Lutheran.

If you are asking about left as in liberal biblically, you can find a happy place with the Lutheran’s, Episcopalians, Methodist’s, Presbyterians and Unitarian’s, although most, including me, will argue that Unitarian’s are not Christian in the Orthodox sense.

I’m guessing you’re interested in the liberal biblical denominations. I’d be curious to know if there are some Biblical principals that you don’t like, and would rather not hear about. If you’re just picking and choosing what you’d like to adhere to, why call it Christianity at all? Why not find some Theosophical Society folks and create your own?

To the great disgrace of the church some Roman Catholic individual parishes are quite leftist, the same with some Episcopalian. The United Methodist churches are more left than most. Unitarian has left the Christian faith altogether they do not even claim to be Christian, although you may be very comfortable there.
