Do you believe that the church is under spiritual attack?

Vic asked the question:

First of all, let me say that I am not Pastor, Prophet, or Priest, but I do believe that the church right now is under a spiritual attack. I have been looking at the situations that have been coming up in the recent week and I am ashamed of what we as believers have allowed to happen. I’m not perfect, but I think that as the Body of Christ we need to come together and fast and pray. I don’t care what denomination you are or what your religious background is. I’m just asking if we can just come together and agree on this one thing. If you don’t believe in God or if what I have written is not for you it is not for you to respond or take offense. If you would just agree with me I would appreciate it and I’m sure God would too. One body, one mind, one spirit. Father, son, and holy ghost.

Supposedly, the church has been under spiritual attack for 2000 years - never mind that the church has been in charge of the entire world for most of that time period.

No I don’t, but I do think it should be scrutinized much more.
Sorry if you don’t get to censure anyone you disagree with but you haven’t the right to play Hitler either even in the name of a false god . no offense but this is an open forum and opposing views are appreciated by most .

I think it’s more than the church that is vulnerable right now. It’s the infrastructure of our entire society. And while you, for example, think it may be spiritual, and I, for example, think it might be due to runaway modernization and its resulting economic, political and social changes…

… the fact would remain that it seems big problems are on the horizon. Whether they’re in fact spiritual or just a product of our society moving too fast for its legs doesn’t change the fact that there are some big problems ahead that, as of yet, neither the church nor our political or social systems appear prepared to confront.

  6. cheir on March 8th, 2009 6:15 am

Absolutely right - but there are very few Christians who would contemplate such action as very few believe in spiritual warfare. Finding them is one thing, getting them together is another.

How shallow and narrow minded does a person have to be that they only want responses that agree with them???

  9. nobody important on March 11th, 2009 1:24 pm

Well I don’t believe and I’m responding anyway. Deal with it. Fast and pray to your imaginary sky-father all you like, you’re wasting time.

    Yes, it actually happens everyday.

  11. arikinder on March 15th, 2009 6:28 am

Vic, I agree. The church has drifted from its moral foundation.

  12. boygreek13 on March 15th, 2009 6:22 pm

i agree, there are lots of bad things happening, molesting, churches which have no problem with homos etc; i think you are right

  13. southernmale42 on March 16th, 2009 10:06 pm

absolutely! But being under attack lets you know you are doing something right. Old Satan is scared and is huffing and puffing to blow the Church down. But He won’t succeed! Thanks for the question, and have a great day!

The church has been under attack sense it began……. but, I know what you are saying…… and YES it is under GREAT attack…… as I believe, because the Bible does say it, we the believers are the church, Yes we all need to pray and fast together……. Labels have NO place in this war……. but, we need to pray for strength,to do what is right, and to hang on to the *faith* , for when the church is no longer, there will be no more to fight…… we , the church will be with Jesus………….

we have noticed in our area that definitely, anyone doing God’s work is under more attacks lately compared to even 6 months ago…. but then again, who is satan going to attack but those who are not his…. he is going to strike those who are spreading God’s word and reaching out to others in love. He doesnt want to lose one more soul to Jesus….

Joining you in prayers for God’s Church… for those who truly follow and teach the Word… that they are protected from the enemy…. in their families, ministries, and workplaces as well.

  17. ejsy05 on March 21st, 2009 2:01 pm

i like the way you think! and i completely agree.. the church is undergoing major spiritual attacks.. i can see them daily at my church. we should pray… together… like you said…One body, one mind, one spirit. in one accord. God Bless.

  18. ForeverSet on March 24th, 2009 12:19 am

Vic…. the Body of Christ has always been under attack, and, I think we have all been praying about that.

However, you have spoken well, and I pray that your words will awaken some to the truth of the matter. :)
    God Bless! :)
*** Unfortunately, cheir is correct…so few understand about it or have the will to do it themselves… so sad, and so true.

You obviously don’t actually mean what you say. Your question is clearly only directed at Christians, not those of all religious backgrounds.

Do you make a habit of making such false statements on a regular basis?

past week. I don’t know what you’re talking about. BUT

Even though we are Christians, it’s not like we are all-powerful and can control everything. It’s not our responsibility to keep the world in order. We just have to be good and spread the word and love of God, right?

  21. KAITLYN W on March 28th, 2009 9:43 pm

I do agree that there are several things in this world that believers should be ashamed of. I mean, the violence and the drugs in this world have become intolerable.

But then again, (I’m a methodist, so I do agree with the bible) alot of Christians don’t understand some things, or believe that God said one thing, when really they just mistranslated.

One Example I can relate to quite well, is the fact that many Christians believe homosexuality to be a sin. The ACTUAL bible, not the translations, never mentions anything about Homosexuality being sinful, only the prostituion which existed between men and men, women and women, AND women and men. Besides, many Christians discriminate against the LGBT community, when God said many times Do Not Judge Others. It’s discrimination, and Jesus would never discriminate.

So while the Christian community does need to come together, it also needs to take blame for what it causes as well in order to create a unified and more peaceful world.

Vic, don’t worry about the naysayers, just ignore them. I try to come and talk to fellow believers too, but the evil one is lurking everywhere. I absolutely agree with you and believe it is because we have been sitting around and becoming selfish and worldly. God is giving us over to our selfish, lazy hearts and I am afraid it is going to take some horrible things to happen to turn things around, or perhaps it is time for His return. Blessings sister.

  23. Bruce7 on April 4th, 2009 2:59 am

Yes, as is the “true believers” in Christ. Many Pastors have spoken of this. It is the end days. I stay in prayer all day. May God bless you. Pray for spiritual growth for the saints in Christ.
Kaitlyn-Yes it does. Lev, Mat, Luk, Rom, Cor 6, Rev 21. If your church is teaching your belief, get out.

  24. Cowboy Apostle on April 8th, 2009 2:20 am

Yes it is or we would not have the Bible telling us things like:
2Co 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;) or Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
    Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
    Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Yes, the Church of Christ has always been under attach. However, at present it is subtle and masked under a lot of social and secular pretense… that is why we need stronger workers of the Lord in His vineyard.

Right now, I am having difficulty in convincing the church I am presently attending that we need to do a course (it’s called the Alpha course -) to witness God’s word as well as help most members with difficulties in their lives (spiritual, moral etc.), and though I cannot judge anyone it is hard to remain quiet… while the Church is under attack.

One God Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
    Amen.

Yes the church is under attack like never before and the reason for what we allow in the churches is lack of the infilling of the holy ghost, that makes weak christians, and they are walking in flesh not after the spirit, yes its a time to pray and fast like never before, theres power in unity to bring the changes that are needed Be blessed Lisa
