How many churches of Christian denomination have closed their doors in the last few years?
Karema Midnight Atheist asked the question:
Their members are leaving in droves especially the fundamentalist. The Pentecostal Church I left four years ago is now used for a warehouse. Why are people abandoning God? I know why I left but they are not all becoming Atheist. Many more wealthy moder church are on the verge of collapse now too because their congregation has fell so low?

Leaving in droves? On the verge of collapse? Where is your proof?
I have not heard this at all.
Got links? Got statistics?
Why are people abandoning God? I think you have that the other way around
1Timothy 4:1
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;”
2Thessalonians 3:2
“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition”
I have no answer, except that the emerging generation is rejecting religion in large numbers.
In the city near me, I smirked when I saw a church with a “For Rent” sign on it. Then, I had to laugh at the irony of another one called “God’s Church” which has a sign “For Sale By Owner”.
The Southern Baptist Convention is losing 40,000 members a year, but progressive churches such as the United Methodists are still strong. Why? Well, issuing statements last May supporting separation of religion and government plus upholding the teachings of evolutionary biology show the UMC is in touch with the times and its members.
Another fast-growing body is the Episcopalians. I have yet to meet an Episcopalian creationist. I’ve met a few Catholic creationists, but they’re always astounded to learn the Vatican supports evolution and has its own cosmological observatory.
Thousands, because Christianity isn’t changing to adapt to new social understanding quick enough.
Churches are just like fraternal organizations without the charitable giving. As a result they have become the home of the aged, and younger people are looking for more productive ways to help their fellow man.
If Christian churches ACTUALLY did provide help to the local community, they would still be valued like they were in the past, but for some reason, most of them turned to member services and real-estate purchases in the 80s-90s and now they are reaping the rewards of that greed.
Church has been ineffectual for the needy for too long.
this isnt who is shutting down here….its religion itself…
noone is keeping track of that…so why should you? when you dont care?// MINE IS FLOURISHING WITH SO MANY MEMBERS ITS difficult to park…its a headache….
many ppl pray on their own…
sadly just Catholic churches closing down. the evangelicals are very busy with their brainwashing campaigns.
Christianity doesn’t adapt. It is pretty clear what we are to do in the Bible. There is no changing to it. We are supposed to do what we are told. period.
You can’t get a parking space at our church unless you go really early otherwise you end up on the side street or the school parking lot. I have actually seen an increase of new people at early Mass too maybe your not looking at the right churches. Those that are folding are in inner cities, which is more dedicated to office buildings now, not homes or even apartments. It makes no sense to keep those buildings open unless they have historical value, like something from the 1700s or mission churches.
Where I live, we just built a new, bigger church and that is becoming packed.
I think maybe the smaller churches are closing doors and churches are becoming fewer, but larger.
Regarding, “I know why I left”. I would be interested to know why if it’s something you are OK sharing.
they don’t know the bible. they give it a bad name, they teach their own ideas so you’re basically worshipping their own religion dressed as christianity
and there is 37,000 denominations, how many different versions can you have, people are either clueless or into it for their own schemes
i haven’t heard any of this..
‘abandoning God’ ?? what you SAY they are doing doesn’t mean they’re shutting him out of their lives.
Many backslide into the ways of the worlds. They believe in God but they don’t want to bow down to him. All I can say is if those that have sound doctrine and teaching in themselves and have the gift of the Holy Spirit leave it’s because of a false preacher or God moves them on to where he see’s them fit.
Of course you wouldn’t have statistics to back that up.
Oh, but don’t let me stop you. Go google it somewhere, since most people seem to believe everything on the internet.
And I don’t know quite what you are talking about, my church is PACKED. We are building 4 more churches, in fact.
But thanks for your, uhhh, concern.
