I’m looking for a church?

Freddie de Lange asked the question:

I want to go to a new church. Now, I realize there are a lot of different denominations out there.
I want to ask it in two ways:
1. To what denomination should I go, and why?
2. To which denomination shouldn’t I go, and why not?
CHRISTIANS

If you are serious I would try a non denominational church first.

You need to pray and ask God.
You need to seek the Truth and the True Church.
I would suggest The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
This is the true church of the Lord restored in our day
I would suggest to learn about as many churches as you can so that you will be able to recognize the one of Jesus Christ.

You should go to a Catholic Church because it is the only Church founded by Jesus Christ himself. Its teachings have never changed.
All other denominations have broken from another church or have been formed on their own.

You should experiment with different churches and then decide where you’re most comfortable with! And to that Atheist, that’s your view, this was a Christian question, and Churches do not lie.

The sooner you realize that your inner being is being destroyed by any church, the better off you will be. If you are not a weak person, you do not need the crutch of a “church” to hold yourself up. Go it alone, and be strong.

Only you can answer what church if any you should go to. You should perhaps first try a non-denomination church. Some denominations have lots of rules and rituals……others don’t. some have more dogma than otheres. Ex. Protestant may be more ritualistic and strict than say an Episcapal one. Some churches will feel that it’s their right to tell you how you should live. Others leave it up to you!
You might even find that church isn’t for you! I find organized religion to be too much dogma. To me spirituality is more important than going to church and participating in organized religion. God/dess is everywhere! I prefer to go out into nature…hiking or camping! That is getting close to the Divine for me….looking at all the miracles of nature! But thats just me! It’s up to you to figure out what is good for YOUR soul! Good luck! P.S. I’d stay away from any organized religion that says they are the TRUTH! Spiritual truth is different for everyone!

Pray and God will enlighten your heart and lead you to His truth. As a personal note….try the Catholic Church…if you are truly seeking truth, why take the long road around..go directly.

Find yourself first. Then, find a church that matches you. You shouldn’t find your faith by hopping churches, you should first find yourself and establish your personal relationship with God. Only then can you go to a church of *any* denomination and truly know if that is the church for you.

Personally, I ascribe to spirituality over “religion”. Religion is too prone to corruption and has a habit of causing a person to not grow further as an individual.

“Of all the systems of morality, ancient or modern, which have come under my observation, none appear to me so pure as that of Jesus. He who follows this steadily need not, I think, be uneasy, although he cannot comprehend the subtleties and mysteries erected on his doctrines by those who, calling themselves his special followers and favorites, would make him come into the world to lay snares for all understandings but theirs.”
-Thomas Jefferson, Letter to WIlliam Canby (September 18, 1813)

Well I don’t know much about denominations other than Baptists(bc thats what i am and how ive been raised) but it shouldn’t matter the denomination so much as the doctrine they teach. I mean, if you have strong beliefs that are closer to what a Methodist would believe, look for a Methodist church, if Catholic, Catholic, or whatever. It isn’t the same for all churches though. For exmple, the best doctrine I’ve ever heard has come from a Baptist church, but I have also heard of one where the pastor literally threw the Bible on the floor during his first sermon and said “I’m not teaching from that trash”. But, most important of all, pray and ask God which church He is leading you to.

I’d go with a liturgical church (Catholic and Lutheran are examples). For me, the more structred service is more worshipful. But everybody’s different, experiment with churches in your area. A church is not just the building and worship structure, but it’s people. You should feel comfortable in the place you choose to worship.

Look for the ones who do the will of God, exercise faith in Jesus’ ransom sacrifice, who do not take up arms, who don’t get involved in politics, who are neutral in the world(don’t take sides in conflicts), are no part of the world as Jesus said. And have love amongst themselves. What fruitages do they produce. Who do not mix idolatry in their worship and worship the Creator not the created.

if you are serious about going to church, then you want to go to a non-deominational church. All denominational churches have a few doctrines and traditions that break away from the Bible at some point….
and if you’re still wondering…dip your toes in the water at one of these websites…
all of these ministries have webcasts…

Greek Orthodox is closest to the teachings of Jesus, but they’re not all that easy to find. I’d find a good, Bible believing, Nondenom church that has a strong outreach ministry. Stay away from the cults like Jehovah’s Witness, Mormon, and any that mis-identify Jesus as other than the Only Begotten Son of God.

And there’s a LOT of good advice above, as well.

  21. Princess_Kings_Kid on March 27th, 2009 9:44 pm

1). Doesn’t matter about denomination…only born again Christians get into heaven.

    2) Look for a Spirit filled church. One that urges relationship and not religion.

Religion is man’s way of trying to reach God.

Relationship is God’s way of reaching us; through Jesus Christ.

Grace to you and God Bless!

denominational churches are establish by by man not God.. don’t go to any denominational church.. don’t waste your time and God’s time…
if a person believes n Jesus he is called a christian.. if the christian in a city meets together they are called the church..
the church inthe Bible doesn’t have a name.. example if you are from ephesus you need to meet with the christians there and be called the church in Ephesus.. where are you now? look for the church in ( the city where uyou are now)
the church in the Bible does not have a pastor or reverent.. God is our pastor and God is our only reverent…
you will find out all church with a name are false church… estblaish by their own leader not God…

in my humble opinion non-denominational is the way to go. you should want to attend bible believing, bible teaching church, one that believes Jesus is the Son of the living God, that Jesus died for our sins and on the 3rd morning He rose for our justification and last but Not least according to scripture that accepting Christ as your Savior is the only way to heaven. also depending on where you live i can suggest one e-mail me if you’re interested. :)

I highly recommend going to a united pentecostal church. We teach the truth. You should not go to any other church because they do not have the truth

  25. Rachel V on April 1st, 2009 10:10 pm

Catholicism is the right one. It is the original form of Christianity. The other denominations split away because they did not want to follow a certain part(s) oh Catholoisism. This is not right because it is not what Jesus wanted and you can’t get fulll spiritual benifet if you are a protistant.

PROTISTANTS: I do not want your critisism. Thank you.
